And then your sweetheart, Carol walked into the room, seeing the look on your face and immediately knew something was wrong:
“What’s going on, John?” she asked, placing a hand on your cold shoulder.
“I lost my job,” you said, handing her the letter.
Carol read it over, her eyes widening in shock. “I’m so sorry, John,” she said, squeezing your shoulder once more, but gently.
In that instance, you felt a wave of despair wash over you. You had dedicated your entire career to this company, and suddenly you are out of work.
How are you going to pay the bills?
How are you going to provide for your dear family?
As you sat there, lost in thought, you couldn’t help but feel angry at the world. Why am I being replaced by a machine? What have I done wrong?
You know you have to do something, but you are not sure what. You had never been particularly tech-savvy, and the thought of starting a new career at your age is daunting.
